I was born in Nepean Hospital in Penrith to Maori parents. I lived in Australia for the first 6 years of my life then returned to New Zealand until I was 19. Nga mānu 🐦My first encounter with a fantail was on the treaty grounds at Waitangi in the North land. I was walking across the grass all of nine or ten and it stood boldly defending it's territory. This fantail was no bigger than my hand and I was curious at the way it was acting. I suddenly felt like a stranger because birds don't normally react this way around me. I grew up in Mangere, the home of David Tua, Joseph Parker, Mark Hunt, Valerie Adams and many more amazing athletes. It is a unique place, and if your from there then you know what I'm talking about. Mangere had a bad reputation growing up. When police would stop us skating around Auckland they would ask where we were from.
